Volunteer: Expedition Everest Challenge

Expedition Everest Challenge, a race adventure with some bite, is coming Saturday, May 4, 2013 to Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park.

Just after sunset, individuals and teams of two will brave the mysteries of a thrilling 5K trek held in the shadows of the Forbidden Mountain. Teams will have to overcome treacherous obstacles lying in their path and then scavenge for clues to aid in their journey. But beware of the Yeti, the abominable snowman that guards the Forbidden Mountain! Escape from the clutches of the Yeti and celebrate conquering this Everest with an exclusive after-hours party at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park.

Sports Enthusiast positions are available for Friday, May 3, 2013 and Saturday, May 4, 2013. Positions are available for athlete registration, course monitors, water stations, start/finish line, refreshments, and much more!

Beneficiaries

The International Snow Leopard Trust (ISLT) uses a combination of approaches that focus on partnering with communities in snow leopard habitats. As the organization builds community partnerships they use science and research to determine key snow leopard habitats, assess wildlife-human conflict levels, and identify potential resources for conservation programs. Once the ISLT has this information they can prioritize the areas where they will work. High priority areas include key snow leopard habitats, with a history of conflict between predators and the communities, and potential resources to sustain a community-based conservation program. For more information, please visit www.snowleopard.org.

The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) has supported conservation assessments in the Himalayas, a region renowned for its unspoiled beauty and pristine wilderness. In 2005, as part of the scientific exploration of the region, leading up to the opening of Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, the DWCF, in collaboration with Conservation International (CI), taught scientists and university students in Nepal the important research techniques needed to aid in plant and animal identification. This effort helped researchers form a strong partnership with local communities through communication and education. Advancing local scientific knowledge will provide the foundation for ongoing information sharing that will influence area decision makers to take action to preserve Himalayan wildlife. Since its inception in 1995, the DWCF has awarded more than $12 million to 750 projects in 110 countries to help to support the important work of both local and global nonprofit organizations to positively impact wildlife, ecosystems, and the communities so closely linked to their survival.
