You may be picked up at any point along the course for not maintaining pace. It is suggeseted that participants train for a 15-minute per mile pace or faster to allow time for breaks (restroom breaks, photo opportunities, etc.).

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training is recruiting now for the annual Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend in October. Last year TNT sent 387 participants who raised $1.1 million to support blood cancer research and patient services. With TNT, the world’s leading endurance sports charity training program, participants get four to five months of training in return for raising funds to fund lifesaving research for cancer treatments. The program’s certified coaches create customized training plans to match each participant’s fitness level and help them meet their goals. And a supportive group of teammates are there to encourage you mile after mile.
Participants also get their own customizable web page to help make fundraising easier. Honored teammates, local blood cancer patients, provide inspiration to the team as they train for their events. And now there's TNT Flex, a flexible, customized, online training option developed by TNT's renowned coaches.
Since 1988, TNT has prepared more than440,000 participants in the United States and Canada to realize their dream of completing a marathon, half marathon, century ride, triathlon or hike adventure, and in return, they have raised $1 billion to support cancer research and patient services. TNT Coach Runs to Remember Her Father
Jennifer Knight first got involved with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training, the world’s leading endurance sports charity training program, in 2008 after a young girl from her hometown in Texas died from leukemia. She had always wanted to run a marathon and this seemed a way to accomplish the goal while honoring the loss of her neighbor. After one season as a TNT participant she was asked to return as a coach for the LLS Northern and Central Florida Chapter.
“I found myself exactly where I needed to be for what took place in the summer of 2009,” she says. That August, her father was diagnosed with a very rare blood disease called Light Chain Deposition Disease, that is not a blood cancer but is treated similarly to the blood cancer multiple myeloma. Her father lost his battle to this disease in Feb. 2010.
“It has been the most painful experience. I miss my dad more each day but he is my inspiration to keep running.”
As a certified coach for TNT, Jennifer provides four to five months of training for the participants of her team and weekly scheduled group runs. Participants get clinics on gear, hydration, nutrition and injury prevention, a customizable web page for fundraising, and travel arrangements to the event of their choice.
Of coaching, Jennifer says, “I love watching TNT participants cross the finish line and seeing the look of accomplishment come across their face. “
She says last year’s Disney Wine and Dine event was especially enjoyable because it was her husband’s first half marathon. She says she also enjoyed the difference of participating in a nighttime race and getting access to the Park after the race.
At last year’s race, Jennifer was a “sweeper” staying behind to help “back of the packers” make it to the finish.
“I met this one TNT participant from another chapter who was really struggling. She ended up being the last person to cross the finish line. As a sweeper I was at the end with her and able to encourage her. It was just amazing to see her finish when she thought there was no way possible.”
TNT is now recruiting for winter events, including Walt Disney World® Marathon and Half Marathon Weekend in January. For more information, visit teamintraining.org/disney.
